Dr. Urso studied medicine at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston and went on to complete his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas and concluded with a fellowship in oculoplastics and reconstructive surgery at the University of Texas branch at Galveston. He has served as an ophthalmologist and clinical assistant professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston as well as Assistant professor in the Department of Head and Neck Surgery at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Urso has been very involved in drug repurposing in addition to drug development and has received FDA approval for his novel wound healing drug .
